Pakistan's first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1, has successfully passed testing and is now operational, marking an important step in the country's space and digital progress.
During Wednesday's PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, emphasized the government's dedication to using space technologies to boost national development.
She stated that PAKSAT-MM1 will transform the nation's communication system and positively change many sectors, especially by improving internet access in remote areas.
This aligns with the government's goal of creating a more digitally connected Pakistan.
Khawaja also pointed out that digitalization is key to economic and social development.
She mentioned that Pakistan has moved up 14 points in the United Nations' e-governance development index, highlighting the country’s improved standing in Asia.
Muhammad Yousuf Khan, the Chairman of SUPARCO (Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), praised the team behind PAKSAT-MM1, stating that the satellite will play a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic progress and will strengthen Pakistan's position in the global space community.
He added that PAKSAT-MM1 will offer valuable services such as direct-to-home (DTH) television, community internet, tele-education, and telemedicine. Khan also encouraged local industries to participate in future space ventures.
